Shell single, 100-120µm in diameter, rarely with delicate inner shell with hexagonal pores. Outer shell thick (12-24µm), generally without spines; some with one conical spine of varying length (5-120µm). Pores circular, of equal size, average diameter 5-9µm, closely packed, polagonally framed, 7-11µm between pore centers.
Distinguishing features: Thick, hollow sphere with closely packed circular pores. Cenosphaera durhami (Campbell and Clark) differs by its larger size and irregular arrangement of pores. Cenosphaera elysia (Haeckel) differs by having pores that taper inward showing two concentric circles when viewed perpendicularly. | | Blueford 1982 |
