Why Acanthodesmia(?) sp.
Richard N. Benson (09/12/2003)
Naming these forms Acanthodesmia(?) sp. is based on the following remarks of Benson (1966, p. 307) who recognized them as possible variants of Eucoronis nephrospyris which is renamed Acanthodesmia vinculata:

“Its affinity with Eucoronis Haeckel, however, is established by the presence of a large, heavy basal (collar) ring and thin primary lateral spines as in Eucoronis nephrospyris. This species (?) may represent a variant form of E. nephrospyris, but its bilocular cephalis gives it a distinctive appearance.”
