Botryocyrtis quinaria(?)

New comment/discussion

Is this species Botryocyrtis quinaria Ehrenberg?
Richard N. Benson (19/12/2003)
Benson (1966) was uncertain as to the identity of this species from the Gulf of California, but he did not identify it as Botryocyrtis quinaria Ehrenberg. Renz’s (1974, p. 789; pl. 18, fig. 19) illustration is identical with the Gulf species, but she apparently named it Botryocyrtis quinaria on the basis of comparison with Petrushevskaya and Kozlova’s illustration (1972, DSDP, v. 14, pl. 39, fig. 7) of that species group from Miocene sediments; however, their illustration more closely resembles Botryocyrtis scutum.
